Becoming a Partner of SVP Boston
Social Venture Partners Boston (SVP Boston) was created to bring professionals, business executives and entrepreneurs together to promote venture philanthropy and to catalyze positive social change in Boston. This unique group of individuals, or “Partners” is the driving force of SVP Boston. Modeled on the venture philanthropy approach, SVP Boston creates partnerships with innovative non-profit organizations by providing time, expertise and resources that fuel growth and build capacity and sustainability. We treat our grants like investments and strive to maximize social value return. Read and download an SVP Boston Information Packet.
SVP Boston has a dual mission. To practice “engaged grant making” by modeling the venture capital investment approach to philanthropy and to catalyze individual philanthropy among its Partners through opportunities for greater involvement, information and learning.
A highly collaborative organization, SVP Boston Partners regularly meet in small groups to research community issues, make investment decisions, and organize volunteer, capacity-building efforts to help grantees.
Each Partner can choose their level of individual involvement and we provide various opportunities for everyone to provide time and expertise. Our Partners can choose to join an Investment Committee and participate in our grant cycles by reading proposals, attending site visits, assisting in due diligence and finally selecting grantees.
Once grants are made, Partners can also join Volunteer Teams to help nurture investee non-profits to develop their capacity and strategic plan. SVP Boston currently has three active grantees; Artists for Humanity, The Edwards Middle School and Project Place. See a complete list of nonpofits that we have worked with and read more about partner volunteer projects.
Partners also help in building and managing SVP through Working Groups. These are fun interactive groups where Partners lend their expertise to keep the organization growing. Examples of these are marketing, recruiting, and strategic planning groups.
Partnership entails a commitment of $5,500 per year at the full partner level and $2,500.00 per year at the associate partner level; all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by current law. Spouses or significant others can join together as one Partner unit.
SVP Boston is always looking for new Partners who want to share in a new kind of giving. If you believe in leveraging your charitable giving and would like to network with like-minded professionals, please send an email to info@svpboston.org.
