Making Investments in the Greater Boston CommunityPartners plant garlic at Food Project farm in Lexington.

Social Venture Partners Boston makes investments in strong, effective programs operating within Greater Boston. We seek to fund organizations that will benefit from a long-term relationship with SVP Boston, including hands-on involvement by individual partners, who have a range of talents and skills to offer non-profit organizations. Partners have skills in the following areas:

  • General management
  • Boards and governance
  • Finance and revenue development
  • Information technology
  • Marketing and media
  • Evaluation and outcomes
  • Replication and expansion

Funding Guidelines

We anticipate making a grant to the chosen nonprofit organization, renewable each year for up to three years. The second and third year grants will likely be smaller than the original and the organization will be evaluated each year to determine each award. SVP Boston will work with organizations which share the following characteristics:

  • Strong, visionary leadership
  • Clear, innovative program plans
  • Committed and involved board of directors
  • Volunteer opportunities for partners
  • 501(c) (3) status or have appropriate fiscal sponsor/agent

SVP Boston focuses its giving in two areas, Education and Economic Development.

Education investments are made to organizations that take an innovative approach to education, with the intent to share best practices and create models that can be replicated at other locations.

Economic Development investments are made to programs that teach and assist individuals to build the skills and knowledge they need so they may become financially self-sufficient.
