Jessica Brooks
Boston Community Capital
Jessica Brooks* joined SVP in 2004 to take a more active approach to her personal philanthropy. When she's not trying to rally troops for another Serve-and-Grow day at The Food Project or dinner at Cuchi Cuchi, she works at Boston Community Capital, where she helps socially-responsible investors put their money to work creating affordable housing, jobs, and community services for low-income people and communities. Prior to joining Boston Community Capital, Jess was director of online community and affiliate programs for Abuzz, a start-up technology company acquired by The New York Times. She helped the company raise its first round of venture capital financing and worked with nytimes.com editors and affiliates to launch community-building software on their websites. Jess has worked as a securities trader on Wall Street, and at Safe Horizon, a nonprofit organization providing services to battered women and other crime victims. She is chair of the board of directors for Cascap, a Cambridge-based nonprofit that provides affordable housing and services for people with special needs, including people with mental illness, low-income senior citizens, and formerly homeless individuals. She is a member of the development committee of former SVP investee, The Food Project, a Red Sox season ticket holder (bleacher seats, right behind the Sox bullpen), and a member of the Kitchen Table giving circle. |
