Laura Eaton
Laura Eaton began her volunteering career with the Brownies and Girl Scouts in Illinois and, in high school, she helped start Students against Drunk Driving and community service clubs. While at Michigan State University, she tutored adults in basic literacy. Laura spent a summer teaching English to adults from five Asian nations in San Francisco's Chinatown while volunteering and living in a home for Asian women in transition. After buying her first new bike since third grade, Laura trained for a year to ride 290 miles in the first Boston to New York AIDS Ride. She holds a master's degree in International Relations from Boston University and she speaks French and German. At Fidelity Investments, Laura helped thousands of people donate millions of dollars through donor advised funds, pooled income funds, and charitable remainder trusts at the Charitable Gift Fund. She later sold mutual funds to financial advisors. As Assistant Director for Major Giving at Tufts' Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Laura combined her international interests and charitable experiences while fundraising from foundations, corporations, and individuals. Laura is active with the United Methodist Church and has helped write grants for the Hull Public Library, and for Wellspring, a social service agency in Hull, Massachusetts. Her favorite SVP activities involve hands-on help with non-profits, whether harvesting vegetables on a farm or brainstorming marketing or fundraising ideas with Executive Directors. |
