Building nonprofit organizational capacity
Nonprofits we invest in are at a crossroads of sorts. They have proven, effective programs and a vision for their next stage of development. But to realize that vision, they need to develop or strengthen their underlying organization.

We help these nonprofits develop and strengthen their underlying organization -- we help them build organizational capacity. We do so by investing our collective time, expertise, and money.

Similar to the venture capital model in the for-profit world, our venture philanthropy model includes multi-year cash grants and customized consulting teams.

SVP Partners provide volunteer support and business expertise in areas including general management, strategy and business planning, marketing and public relations, finance and revenue development, boards and governance, human resources management, evaluations and outcomes, and growth and replication.

We set specific goals and track progress, knowing that we all learn from our experiences and continuously improve the way we do our work and the results that we produce for the community.

This venture philanthropy approach is key to helping our Investees achieve results that are not merely measurable…they are remarkable.

By working hand-in-hand with our Investees, with other SVP Partners, and by joining in educational and community-building events, we become more informed, committed, effective philanthropists. We often expand our own, personal philanthropic contributions and activities to new levels.

Ensuring a successful earned income operation by building a solid strategy and business plan for both in-store and on-line retail.

Increasing community awareness and fundraising by building multiple marketing channels, including traditional and new media channels, all closely coordinated under a long-term marketing plan.

Driving to consensus among Investee staff and Board on overall mission and vision through facilitated discussions.

Advising on Board structures and policies that lend strong, working support to the Investee's executive leadership.

Increasing web-generated donations by restructuring website pages, showcasing the impact of the organization and individual donations, and graphically displaying performance data.
